lyrics
You ride your bike around the navy yard
You lie about your age so you can join the first world war
I heard that you can talk to anyone you meet
Well I wish that you could talk to me
When I was born you were already dead
So you ride your bike around the navy yard in my head
And I’ve got your blood inside of me
We’re not the same, but probably close enough
So when 70 years have turned to stone
And I’m living with your blood
It means you’re not really gone
You smash your brother’s head and bury him
But when God asks you, you say “I don’t know where he is”
You dig a trench, you hold the line, you fire ‘til you’re spent
You try to forget
When I was born you’d already drank yourself to death
But you keep digging up holes in my head
And I’ve got your blood inside of me
It’s how I know, that I’m not good enough
For millions of years you killed to live
And I’m living with your blood
Now how am I supposed to love?

I keep coming back to this album, ceaselessly since I first stumbled upon it, when I feel as though I need something that is familiar, something that feels like home, and yet it’s something so full of mystery to me, something so elusive.. there is something truly special to this album that I can’t quite place, be it the exceptional songwriting or the eclectic performances, it feels larger than that.. this is an album that truly and entirely should have been a classic, please listen to it.
